The Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) was opened for business on Monday when Astronaut Jeff Williams became the first human to enter an inflatable module in space.

The International Space Station grew in size on Saturday when the Bigelow Expandable Module (BEAM) was successfully expanded on the second attempt after the initial deployment on Thursday did not work out as planned.

The crew aboard the International Space Station will make another attempt to deploy BEAM, the first human-rated expandable module, on Saturday after engineering assessments following Thursday’s failed deployment of the module.

The deployment of the first human-rated expandable module had to be stopped on Thursday aboard the International Space Station after the initial expansion of the small module did not show the expected progress.

The International Space Station will get a new room on Thursday when the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module will be deployed as part of a long-duration test of expandable module technology for future application in space flight.
