ZLV Guiana Space Center

Centre Spatial Guyanais, Kourou 97387, Französisch-Guyana

ZLV, Site de Lancement Vega, is a launch site located at the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana, Europe’s overseas launch base. Formerly known as ELA-1, the complex supported the first launches from the equatorial launch site starting with the Europa-II rocket in 1971. ELA-1 started supporting regular launch operations in 1979 with a series of nine Ariane 1 launches, followed by mixed operations between Ariane 1,2 and 3 with 16 missions through 1989. As operations shifted to Ariane 4, ELA-1 entered deactivation. Extensive remodeling occurred in the 2000s ahead of the inaugural Vega mission from the former ELA-1 pad.
