Photos: Eighth IRNSS Navigation Satellite Prepares for Launch

India’s eighth IRNSS navigation satellite prepares for launch aboard a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle to provide replacement capacity for the very first IRNSS satellite launched in 2013 that suffered failures of its onboard atomic clocks, severely degrading its ability of providing quality navigation signals. IRNSS consists of seven active satellites in a one-redundant system and future plans exist to increase the number of satellites to eleven to increase accuracy and overall system robustness.
