Fox 1A CubeSat

Fox 1A is an amateur communications satellite using the 1U CubeSat form factor developed and built by AMSAT with participation of Penn State University for the development of a student payload to be installed on the satellite so that it could qualify for a launch under NASA’s Educational Launch of Nanosatellites Program.

The science payload aboard Fox 1A is a MEMS (Microelectromechanical) gyroscope assembly to be used in attitude determination. The communications system of the satellite features a 2-meter and a 70-centimeter whip antenna. The comm system operates at the amateur UHF uplink at 435 MHz and the VHF downlink at 145 MHz.
