Atlas V to launch SBIRS-GEO 3

Embarking on its first mission of the year, United Launch Alliance's Atlas V rocket will take into orbit the third satellite in the U.S. Air Force Space-Based Infrared System. The multi-billion Dollar program is considered one of the most critical space-based defense capabilities, detecting and tracking short- and long-range missiles all across the globe to provide real-time information needed to plan appropriate defense strategies. Blasting off from Cape Canaveral, Atlas V will take the satellite into a standard Geostationary Transfer Orbit.
