Photos: InSight Mars Lander Undergoes Assembly & Testing

NASA’s InSight lander, tasked with studying the interior and history of Mars, is assembled at Lockheed Martin’s facilities and integrated with three primary instruments that will measure present-day seismic activity, probe the heat emanating from Mars’ interior and nail down the planet’s rotation dynamics with unprecedented accuracy to reveal the properties of its core. It is the first outer space mission designed for an in-depth study of the interior of another rocky planet and will deliver valuable knowledge on the internal structure of Mars, shedding light on the formation of rocky planets in the inner solar system as well as rocky exoplanets and their evolution.
