Photos: GOES-S Weather Satellite Takes its Spot atop Atlas V Rocket

The encapsulated GOES-S weather satellite was transferred from its final processing facility to Cape Canaveral’s Space Launch Complex 41 on February 16, 2018 for installation atop its Atlas V 541 rocket to enable a final set of integrated testing activities to get underway in preparation for a March 1st liftoff.  GOES-S will join the GOES-R spacecraft that entered regular operation in 2017 to provide complete coverage of the contiguous United States, the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans where weather systems capable of affecting the U.S. form.
