The Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) or Sriharikota High Altitude Range (SHAR) is India’s prime orbital launch site, hosting two active launch complexes (FLP & SLP) for use by the country’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle families. The center was opened in 1971 and initially supported sounding rockets before India inaugurated its Satellite Launch Vehicle.
