Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center

The Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, located in Inner Mongolia, China, is one of the country’s inland orbital space launch sites and the prime launch site for the country’s crewed space program. Situated in the Gobi desert some 1,600 Kilometers from Beijing, Jiuquan opened in 1958 as the first of China’s space ports. Covering 2800 square Kilometers, the center hosts two active launch areas: Launch Area 2 with the LA-2A and 2B launch pads used for the Long March 2 series and Launch Area 3 with SLS-1 for crewed Long March 2F launches and SLS-2 for missions by the Long March 2 and 4 families.
